Aquanuity, Inc., the leader in strategy-led simulation-powered water infrastructure digital twin software, today announced the first quarter 2024 addition of a comprehensive Unidirectional Flushing (UDF) module to AquaTwin Water Pro. The new module extends the core hydraulic and water quality multi-species modeling capabilities of AquaTwin Water Pro with a powerful geocentric solution for creating pipe flushing plans to restore distribution system hydraulic capacity and improve water quality. It further substantiates Aquanuity’s steadfast commitment to delivering value-driven geocentric innovation to its customers.
Unidirectional flushing is a planned, organized, sequential technique that begins from a clean starting point. It involves closing isolation valves to direct flow to the flushing hydrant. This minimizes the spread of sediment to other parts of the system and produces a higher velocity of flow. The new UDF module uses the minimum flushing velocity and shear stress criteria to design the proper sequences of hydrants to open and boundary valves to close for optimal cleaning while maintaining sufficient pressure at critical locations in the system.
“AquaTwin Water Pro continues our strategy of raising the bar and setting new standards in ArcGIS Pro-centric water infrastructure digital twin innovation,” said Paul F. Boulos, Aquanuity Chairman and CEO. “The new UDF module lets water utilities design efficient flushing programs to help them sustain safer, more efficient and reliable drinking water infrastructures and best serve and protect their communities.”
