Aquanuity Unveils AquaTwin Sewer 2D for Overland Flow and Quality Modeling

Aquanuity, Inc., the leader in strategy-led simulation-powered water infrastructure digital twin software, today announced the first quarter 2024 release of AquaTwin Sewer 2D for ArcGIS Pro. The product extends the powerful sewer network modeling capabilities (sub-surface system) of AquaTwin Sewer by giving users the ability to accurately model overland runoff (surface system). It further substantiates Aquanuity’s steadfast commitment to delivering value-driven geocentric innovation to its customers.

Pluvial flooding in urban areas is characterized by a gradually varying inundation process caused by surcharge of the sewer manholes. AquaTwin Sewer 2D efficiently simulates the dynamic interaction between the sewer network (sub-surface system) and the overland flow (surface system) in order to accurately predict the flood inundation extents. The hydrodynamic simulation of the sub-surface system is solved using the 1D Saint-Venant equations and the hydrodynamic simulation of the surface system inundation is solved using the 2D shallow water equations. The resulting fully integrated 1D-2D model is a very useful and powerful tool in simulating flood extent and flood inundation in urban areas.
